This month, we celebrate women all around the world! It is Women History Month. At the same time, that we are celebrating women for their incredible contributions to society, women have been hit hard by the pandemic with ripple effects for years to come on society.

Women lost more than 5.4 million jobs in 2020. During the first 10 months of the pandemic, women — particularly women of color — have lost more jobs than men as industries that employ women have been hit the hardest. — Kristin Hull Ph.D

We are at a critical turning point in our society. And we should commit to doing whatever we can to keep women in the task force. More than ever, we need to support women economically, and we need to invest in women. One of the solutions is to commit to buying fair trade & ethically source products from a fair-trade company.

Last year, Fair Trade Los Angeles celebrated a huge milestone. They made Los Angeles the largest Fair Trade City in America and the non-profit is now relaunching their highly-educational FAIR Talks to continue educating the community.

In honor of International Women’s Day on March 8th, Fair Trade LA is organizing a Fair Talks. The online event features one of their Fair Trade company member, Malia Designs. The founder Lucia Ruth is a small business owner with a big impact working with women in Cambodia.

A Fair Trade Company Dedicated To Helping Women in Cambodia

Malia Designs’ mission is to increase economic opportunity for women in Cambodia and to support organizations that fight human trafficking in Southeast Asia. Their fair trade fashion products are made by cooperatives that employ disadvantaged people. Malia Designs connect artisans to Western markets. The fair-trade company develops partnerships to expand its access to sustainable income and safe and dignified working conditions.

Fair Trade LA is an educational nonprofit based in Los Angeles. Their mission is to educate and inspire consumers to embrace Fair Trade products so global farmers and artisans have the opportunity to earn a fair and sustainable living.
